WE Day events in light of COVID-19

With a heavy heart we must inform you that WE made the difficult decision earlier this week to cancel all WE Day events, including WE Day Community: Baltimore (March 30), WE Day Illinois (April 29) and WE Day California (May 8) and instead will bring the spirit of our WE Day celebrations virtually into classrooms around the world through a series of live and interactive online events. WE is committed to always following the guidelines of public health experts, and this decision to cancel WE Day events was taken out of an abundance of caution in light of the COVID-19 situation.

We understand it will be disappointing for the hundreds of thousands of students, educators, speakers and partners who participate every year and collectively logged 10.5 million hours of service this year for 5,000 causes.

This Spring, WE has made the decision to deliver our WE Day celebrations virtually into global with live and interactive online events, featuring celebrity guest appearances, student change-makers and educators from across the globe who are tackling critical social issues and making a difference in their communities and beyond. Dates to be announced soon.

Our WE Schools program will remain unaffected by the current situation. WE Schools is a leader in providing virtual service-learning programs that are accessible to K-12 students, educators and families globally. Educators and students who participate in our global programs receive resources to support their service learning, and then participate in facilitated sessions. This programming is broadcasted live and subject-matter experts speak about their work and lived experiences related to addressing social issues and making an impact.

More than ever, it is paramount that we continue to support young people in their pursuit of active citizenship, the development of their social emotional skills and future readiness, and provide opportunities to connect with a community of changemakers. We thank the teachers, parents and our partners for their unwavering encouragement of our young people.

At this time, the WE Day stadium events for the Fall 2020 season remain unaffected.

WE will continue its policy of actively monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation globally through the World Health Organization, and following guidelines from national public health organizations including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, National Health Services (UK), and Public Health Agency of Canada.

From all of us at WE, stay safe and healthy!
